Founded in 1967, the College now serves more than 12,800 students annually and provides a continuum of education, from offering college credit courses for high school students to preparing students for the workforce upon completion of certificates, associate degrees or transfer to a four-year institution. Additionally, the college is home to the Holden University Center where partner, four-year institutions offer bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs. 

JOB DESCRIPTION:  Teach a variety of courses in the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Paramedic program in a manner consistent with the Colleges' and the course goals and objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES (representative)

INSTRUCTION

  • Select texts, supplemental documents and other learning resources. 
  • Set attainable instructional goals and objectives compatible with approved rationale for the courses.
  • Evaluate students to determine their progress toward course goals and objectives; assign final grades.
  • Maintain a minimum of ten (10) posted office hours per week on campus.

COURSE AND CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT

  • Recommend to the department dean the revision, deletion or addition of courses or curricula.
  • Evaluate and recommend revisions to course catalog and support materials.
  • Maintain updated course outlines according to prescribed college procedures; develop course syllabi.

SERVICE TO THE COLLEGE, PROFESSION AND COMMUNITY

  • Remain current with the field(s) of assigned instruction and related occupational areas by participating in CoAEMSP and CAAHEP sponsored national conferences and workshops.
  • Acquire, maintain and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials.
  • Participate in accreditation processes and college, division and department committees and meetings.
  • Serves as the EMS program’s academic administrator.
  • Responsible for communication, program assessment and planning, fiscal management and faculty evaluation.

QUALIFICATIONS (Required)

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Have appropriate medical or allied health education, training, and experience.
  • Be knowledgeable about methods of instruction, testing and evaluation of students.
  • Have field experience in the delivery of out-of-hospital emergency care.
  • Have academic training and preparation related to emergency medical services at least equivalent to that of a paramedic.
  • Knowledgeable about the current versions of the National EMS Scope of Practice and National EMS Education Standards and about evidence-informed clinical practice.
