POSITION SUMMARY 

The Dental Hygiene Clinic Instructor shares responsibility for delivering a quality educational experience for the students in the Dental Hygiene Clinic.  Available clinic session hours are 5:45-8:45 p.m., on Mondays; and 1:00-4:00 p.m., on Thursdays.  It is not necessary that candidates are available for both clinic sessions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work in partnership with other instructors in teaching, reinforcing and evaluating correct dental hygiene skills.
  • Address student issues in a timely manner, including communicating issues to clinic advisors and program director.
  • Assess all aspects of student dental hygiene care, including initial assessment, charting, scaling, root planing, supplemental procedures, and documentation.
  • Evaluate clinical competencies for various dental hygiene procedures.
  • Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of clinical course objectives.
  • Discuss with students their concerns and/or problems directly or indirectly related to the clinical learning experience and the achievement of satisfactory progress.
  • Provide a professional role model for students. Be committed to their academic success.
  • Remain current in the dental hygiene field and relate information to teaching/clinical responsibilities.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled faculty meetings and calibration activities.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required/Preferred

  • Current Ohio dental hygiene license.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience in a dental practice; three (3) years preferred.
  • Prior teaching experience preferred.
  • Local anesthesia certification preferred.

  • Able to interact effectively and professionally with students, faculty and other staff.
  • Ability to address student needs and resolve issues with diplomacy and tact.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced setting.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including questioning, listening and showing concern and respect for others.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Possess a high degree of integrity and commitment to comply with policies, regulations, and codes of conduct governing all aspects of job responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy skills including working knowledge of Adobe and Word. Familiarity with Patterson Eaglesoft a plus.
