Part-time Faculty: PTAS Lab Instructor

The PTA program is searching for a PT or PTA to serve as a laboratory assistant for two first-semester courses (spring semester).  Lab content will be directed by the primary instructor for each course; the assistant will provide guidance to student groups as they learn and practice the material, and will conduct skill checks and lab practicals for half of the students. This position is for 12 lab ours per week. Knowledge and experience in the following areas of physical therapy treatment is required:

  • Basic patient care skills: patient safety; vital signs; bed mobility and transfers; gait training; guarding and assistance; patient communication; clinical documentation
  • Musculoskeletal function and kinesiology: joint osteokinematics and arthrokinematics; muscle attachments, actions and innervation; brachial and lumbosacral plexus function; basic orthopedic conditions; posture and gait analysis

Lab days and times: PTAS 1210 Anatomy/Kinesiology for PTA T/R 9:00-12:00, PTAS 1220 PTA Interventions I T/R 1:00-4:00

Qualifications:

  • If candidate is a PTA: AAS in PTA required; active, unrestricted Ohio PTA license  
  • If candidate is a PT: Minimum of bachelor's degree in physical therapy; active, unrestricted Ohio PT license
  • Minimum of 3 years full-time clinical expereince as a PT or PTA. Experience with basic patient handling skills.
  • Clinical experience with patients requiring physical assistance.
  • Continuing education in topics related to musculoskeletal system and treatment in the acute care, skilled nursing, inpatient or home health rehab setting is preferred.

Hiring is dependent on sufficient enrollment in the incoming class in January 2024.

Compensation:  Adjuncts are paid at a rate of $792 per unit of load.  (Lecture sections equate a unit of load to an hour of contact time, while laboratory sections are equated at .89 of a unit per contact hour.)  Courses range from 1-4 units of load.
