Lakeland Community College invites qualified candidates to submit applications to teach one section of COMM 1000: Effective Public Speaking at Mentor High School, a Lakeland College Credit Plus partner.
Spring Semester: January – May 2026
- Course: COMM 1000 – Effective Public Speaking (3 units of load) at Mentor High School
Course Description: This course introduces students to the essential strategies and techniques employed by effective public speakers. The course covers strategic audience adaptation throughout the communication process. It provides suggestions for improving speeches in all facets, including invention, organization, style, and delivery. The course emphasizes the critical analysis of the effective and ineffective practices of historical, cultural, and contemporary speakers. It also provides opportunities for students to gain practical experiences in the art of self-expression.
Course Time: Mentor High School (6477 Center Street, Mentor, OH 44060):
· Monday/Tuesday/Thursday, 8:14 a.m. – 9:06 a.m.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Required: Master’s degree and 18 graduate credit hours in Communication Studies or closely related field (either as part of the degree or additional work beyond the degree).
- Preferred: Master’s degree in Communication Studies, or closely related field, and experience teaching college-level courses at a community college. The ability to integrate technology into instruction and develop hybrid or online courses is a plus.
