Lakeland Community College invites qualified candidates to submit their application to teach online sections of Sociology 1150 – Principles of Sociology and Sociology 2000 – Race & Ethnic Relations in the U.S.
Spring Semester: January – May 2026
Courses: SOCY 1150 – Principles of Sociology (3 units of load)
Course Description: This course provides an introduction to theoretical perspectives and research methods used by sociologists to understand and interpret our social world. Major components of the course include a sociological analysis of culture, socialization, social institutions, stratification, and social change with society.
Courses: SOCY 2000 – Race & Ethnic Relations in the U.S. (3 units of load)
Course Description: This course provides an overview of race and ethnic relations in the U.S. with an emphasis on the dynamics of contemporary and historical intergroup relations. Theoretical perspectives and research methods used to analyze intergroup relations are emphasized. Concepts and processes covered include the social construction of race and ethnicity, prejudice, discrimination, intersectionality, identity politics, minority groups, dominant group, and agents of social change. An interdisciplinary approach to the study of racial ethnic minorities in the U.S. with an emphasis on the racial-ethnic composition of Northeast Ohio is integral to this course.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Required: Master’s degree and 18 graduate credit hours in sociology (either as part of the degree or additional course work beyond the degree).
- Preferred: Master’s degree in sociology and experience teaching college-level courses at a community college.
