Part-time Staff: Library Circulation Assistant (2 positions available, two 15-hour/week shifts)

The part-time library circulation assistant performs library circulation duties and responsibilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform circulation duties: check out/renew materials, prepare notices for overdue materials, collect fines, notify patrons of receipt of ordered materials, answer phone and respond to visitor’s questions or direct callers/visitors to appropriate resource person, maintain reserves collection.
- Provide general information to callers and patrons and assist patrons using public access equipment, e.g., scanners, laptops, copiers and other library equipment.
- Collect data for and prepare reports of library activity.
- Maintain the organization and cleanliness of the circulation desk and the library.
- Assist library personnel with special projects.
- Assist with the annual inventory process, instituting procedures, and prioritizing work.
- Assist in checking materials during inventory.
- Assemble and display library promotional materials.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Education/Training and Experience Required/Preferred
- High school diploma and previous library work experience.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the requisite amount of knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable.
B. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of current office practices, procedures, and equipment; library procedures; basic mathematics.
- Skills in following oral and written instructions; providing excellent customer service; performing arithmetical calculations; maintaining files.
- Abilities to learn and apply applicable library policies and procedures; operate standard office equipment and various telecommunications networks; perform routine and detailed tasks in an accurate and efficient manner; maintain effective interpersonal working relationships.
C. Physical Activity Level
- Light – Sit sometimes; walk and stand sometimes, lift occasionally.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: REWRITE
- This is a part-time, non-continuing position, staff position, 04A of the staff salary schedule, with a starting rate of $14/per hour. Non-insurance benefits include paid time for vacation, personal, sick and holidays along with pro-rated tuition. There are two shift options available. Indicate your shift preference by selecting one or both options on the application.
Shift A: 15 hours per week, 5 hours per day
Monday: 3 - 8 p.m.
Tuesday: 1 - 6 p.m. (may be asked to work till close or shift hours for coverage sometimes)
Thursday: 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Shift B: 15 hours per week, 5 hours per day
Wednesday: 3 - 8 p.m.
Thursday: 1 - 6 p.m. (may be asked to work till close or shift hours for coverage sometimes)
Friday: 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.
