ASSISTANT COACH:  MEN'S SOCCER

Lakeland Community College is accepting applications for an assistant coach for our men’s soccer team, a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II athletic program. Read more about our teams at:  Men's Soccer.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with the head coach and other assistant(s) to assist with and/or lead practices as the occasion requires
  • Assists with game day coaching
  • Attends department meetings and functions, as requested
  • Scouts opponents and prepares scouting assignments
  • Assists in the recruitment of student-athletes
  • Develops working relationships with all athletic department personnel
  • Assists with the transportation of the team to games/events.  May be assigned, by the athletic director, to drive (up to a 15-passenger van) the team to games/events which may be up to 1.5 hours away.  When not driving, the assistant coach will ride with and help supervise the team.
  • Complies with policies and procedures of the Lake County Community College district.
  • Assistant coach may be assigned other duties by the head coach such as:  monitoring the student-athlete academic programs, assisting with fundraising activities, working with the college on social media and/or press releases, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is desired.
  • A minimum of two years of coaching experience at the high school, club, or college level is required 
  • A valid Ohio driver's license and a driving record which qualifies the driver under the College's insurance program required
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification required (arrangements can be made for this to be obtained via training provided by the college).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the rules of the sport; basic equipment, methods and supplies; NJCAA rules and regulations; safety methods and procedures
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with students, athletes, recruits, coaches, college personnel, alumni, and other external constituents
  • Ability and skill to demonstrate or otherwise provide coaching in the techniques of the sport, analyze players, and provide feedback for improvement
  • Ability to learn and properly apply departmental policies/procedures and association rules; motivate, coach, and model appearance and behavior; work independently; establish and maintain effective interpersonal working relationships
  • Ability to maintain professional attitude and demeanor in difficult situations

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

This is a part-time, salaried position with pay distributed during the season (August-November). This position is HALF of one assistant position. The stipend range for the half position is $2,214/season with a maximum amount of $3,103/season, depending on experience.
