STUDENT SUCCESS NAVIGATOR

JOB DESCRIPTION:  The Student Success Navigator works as a Learning Center early alert advocate and completion coach to help connect students to on campus resources. The position focuses on helping students successfully persist in their coursework and improve their retention in college using a variety of interventions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a success coach to students, supporting all student persistence and achievement initiatives on campus.
  • Refer students identified by faculty to support resources on campus.
  • Develop ongoing individual support sessions with students struggling with college study skills to set goals, develop action plans for academic success, and identify barriers to success.
  • Offer subject-specific tutoring, as determined by skills (ex. Math, Writing, ESL, study skills, etc.)
  • Closely monitor students to identify at-risk situations and opportunities to improve graduation success.
  • Provide proactive and timely outreach through a variety of methods to facilitate effective communication including presenting content-specific workshops.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of student success initiatives, development, and implementation.
  • Ability to provide one-on-one support sessions for students struggling with college study skills.
  • Knowledge of directive and non-directive coaching techniques.
  • Ability to relate to a diverse population.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, faculty, staff, students and the public through excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Skilled in public speaking with the ability to present ideas and concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Exceptional customer service and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to team environment.
  • High energy; passionate about student success with a commitment to excellence in providing student services.
  • Ability to easily navigate software programs and forms of technology as needed.
  • Knowledge of video editing.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree, master’s degree preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and social media platforms with technological skills to work in an organization that utilizes instructional technology resources.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills; strong presentation and facilitation skills.

Preferred:

  • One or more years of related work experience such as mentoring or student success in a higher education environment.

COMPENSATION:  This is a full-time, grant-funded, non-continuing position with a starting rate of $20.46/hr.
