The Network Architect plays a pivotal role in our organization by overseeing the monitoring, installation, configuration, and support of both physical and cloud-based networking equipment, including routers, switches, wireless devices, firewalls, load balancers, DNS, and DHCP. We primarily operate within a Cisco environment.


RESPONSIBILITIES (representative, not all inclusive):

  • Analyze and optimize LAN traffic, identifying and rectifying bottlenecks.
  • Administer, Support, ensure network uptime, and maintain the entire network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, subnets, Wi-Fi, Firewall, Cloud and VPN.
  • Develop and implement network management standards and procedures, including security, disaster recovery, and cybersecurity.
  • Provide technical support for internet and intranet communications.
  • Troubleshoot connectivity and application issues.
  • Keep hardware firmware updated as recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Contribute to team discussions for network improvements, cybersecurity enhancements, and hardware or software modifications.
  • Serve as a backup for Network Systems Administrator.
  • Stay current with industry trends and certifications in network architecture, Wi-Fi technology, VPN security, and cybersecurity.
  • Perform other assigned duties related to network and cybersecurity operations.


QUALIFICATIONS (Required and Preferred):

Education/Training and Experience

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Computer Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science, or Electronic Technology.
  • At least five years of work experience in a Cisco network architecture, administration, and management.
  • While not required, Industry-recognized certifications like Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) would be a plus.

  • This role demands effective communication, critical thinking, and adaptability to convey technical information, solve complex network and cybersecurity issues, and adapt to evolving technologies.
  • Strong time management, resilience under pressure, and leadership are essential for multitasking, maintaining positivity in stressful situations, and leading team discussions.
  • Meticulous organization, a customer-centric approach, and self-motivation with independent judgment ensure accurate network configurations, outstanding support, and optimized network performance.



This is a 12-month, full-time position assigned to pay grade 5 of the administrative and supervisory/professional salary schedule. Information pertaining to employment at Lakeland is available on the college’s Human Resources webpage
